Getting Started

Start your remodeling project on the right foot!  The complete process of kitchen and bath planning, design and installation requires a tremendous amount of expertise. Not only do planning and space requirements have to be met, but plumbing, electrical, lighting and construction issues must also be addressed. Ultimately, the kitchen and bath must be aesthetically pleasing and, most importantly, be functional, safe and satisfy the needs of you, the homeowner.

As you look ahead to a major remodeling project or new home construction, it may seem a daunting task. To make the start of the process a little easier, we have provided you with a few hints and guides:

  • Create an "Ideas" File:  Using magazines and the internet, collect ideas and information of kitchens and/or baths that appeal to you.  Pay attention to: layouts, functional features like interior cabinet accessories, architectural features, and the mix of materials and finishes.  Make sure you share these with other family members to understand their preferences.
  • Determine what general style you like – contemporary, traditional, eclectic, etc.
  • Print the appropriate planning questionnaire from below and complete as a portion of your planning process.
  • Develop two lists; (1) a needs list and (2) a wish list. Prioritize each list.
  • Determine your budget:  The budget is usually the most difficult step for some people, but is important for two reasons (1) it will prevent you from over-spending and (2) it will enable remodeling professionals to engineer the greatest value into your project for what you are willing to invest.

Print the below project planning guide as your first step in planning your new or updated space!  You will want to bring this to the designer on your first visit in the design studio.
